Preschool Director
My name is Heather Hicks and I am excited to be joining the team at Kid’s Clubhouse as your preschool director. I have lived in North Carolina now for nine years and have four children ages 21,19,19 and 14 years old. We also have two dogs an English Mastiff who is seven and two year old Golden Doodle, who always has us on our toes. Our family loves to travel and visit new places, with an upcoming trip to Jamaica. My travels have led me to live in five different states and two different countries. My educational background is in early education, with an emphasis in preschool development. For most of my adult life I enjoyed being a stay at home mom watching my own children grow and learn. When my youngest started preschool I decided it was time to go back to work. At this time I was living in Tokyo, Japan. While living in Tokyo, Japan I was hired to work for the U.S. Navy as a preschool teacher at their Child Development Center. While employed with the Navy I successfully completed thirteen modules of the Preschool Caregiver Training Program which would later lead to a promotion to Lead Preschool Teacher for the U.S. Marine Corp Child Development Center in Jacksonville, North Carolina. The US Marine Corp presented me with a Certificate for World Class Customer Service.
After working for a year as a lead preschool teacher, I enrolled in Preschool Classes with the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Child Development and Early Education completing certificates in Prevention and Response to Emergencies Due to Food and Allergic Reactions, Emergency Preparedness in Natural Disasters and Human-caused events, Prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome, Abusive Head Trauma and Child Maltreatment, Precautions in Transporting Children, Advanced Fire Safety, Creating an Literacy Rich Environment, Prevention if SIDS, Medications in Child Care Recognizing and Responding to Child Maltreatment, Handling and Storage and Disposal of Bio-Contaminants, BSAC: Basic School Age Care, Eliminating Transitions to Eliminate Chaos, building and Physical Premises Safety and Prevention of Control of Infectious Disease. I also received my certificate in Leadership and Overview of Montessori in Childhood Level Montessori Fundamental.
After completion of these classes I went to work for a faith based preschool as a preschool teacher for two years before I was promoted to the Director of the Preschool, where I worked for year before moving here to Garner, North Carolina when I married my husband two years ago. I have continued my love for working with preschoolers over the past ten years in variety of settings and accepted a position in Wake County Schools as a Special Education Preschool Assistant where I have worked here in Garner. My favorite classroom activities are art, literacy and science. I love working with preschool aged children and I’m excited to watch each one of your children grow and reach his/her personal achievements and goals this school year.
